Memory V5 is designed to store what is needed to continue a task, not to keep a permanent copy of your full chat history.

What is stored in the cloud?

Task-continuation information such as the goal, current focus, confirmed decisions, completed work, excluded approaches, unresolved issues, next step, and version information needed for restore.

A small amount of operational state is also kept so the service can determine whether save, restore, and confirmation flows are working correctly.

What can be used temporarily during handoff?

If the latest turns have not yet become confirmed task state, a small recent unconfirmed tail may be carried temporarily so an important last-minute change is not lost. It does not automatically become confirmed long-term task state.

What can Power process locally?

Normally, Power prepares continuation content and copies it. Only during a genuine cloud, network, or sign-in failure can it use limited recent local context to prepare an emergency continuation. That emergency data is bounded and is not a full-chat backup.

What is not kept as long-term product data?

ChatGPT credentials, cookies, access tokens, API keys, the full chat transcript, and the AI's complete reply history are not kept as long-term product data.

How is task data protected?

Cloud task data is encrypted at the application layer and isolated by signed-in user identity. If identity cannot be established or task identity conflicts, the system should stop instead of guessing.

Your controls

You can export your current task state and delete your own task after explicit confirmation.

Do not put passwords, API keys, seed phrases, or other secrets into task state.
